The research of Professor Kim focuses on the simulation of natural phenomena such as smoke, fire, water, and virtual humans for computer graphics and visual effects purposes. In particular, he works with model reduction, fluid dynamics, and finite element methods.
Professor Kim is a faculty member in the Media Arts and Technology Program, and also has a courtesy appointment in Computer Science. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was a Post-Doc at Cornell University and IBM TJ Watson Research Center. He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award, a UCSB Harold J. Plous Award, and a Scientific and Technical Academy Award.
